Do you have part numbers for the gear thing, or any pictures? I am a bit mechanically inclined, and you may just save me a couple hundred bucks!!!

When I called the dealer the said it wasn't a recall but only a bullitin and they had a part to replace the slide setup. It's a gear now insted. I bought it and it was only $17 dollars. As far as the knob goes you have to replace the whole climate control unit. I think they are about $230. I was lucky enough to get one from my good friends at ROAD RACE MOTORSPORTS from a project car. Thanks Rob you rock. I installed it myself. Only took about an hour. No more than that. I would look on e-bay for one. It's not hard to replace. I wouldn't pay anyone $800 to replace it. You don't need any special tools. Good Luck.

Personally since 3/4 of the people are having problems this should be a recall. I doubt they will make it one just because of how expensive it is to fix.

I have an idea. Lets all report this issue to the NHTSA.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/

who knows, with enough of these complaints, they may investigate it, and force mitsubishi to issue a recall.

the only way we'll see change is if we take action and quit b1tching about it.

What would we classify it under?

Engine and Cooling?
Electrical System?
Equipment?
Equipment Adaptive?
Visibility: Defroster/Defogger system?

let me know, i'm filing a complaint.

Defroster/defogger system. Since I couldn't change my temperature to hot I couldn't defrost my windshield effectively.

Man, my 03 Evo did this and it drove me nucking futs. I thought it was my head unit had too many wires and was interfering with the slider. It never broke, because I never forced it, but it was a major PITA to move, and I had to move it bit by bit to not break it.

When I got my 06, I went to turn the knob and it just moved effortlessly, I was like WTF? LOL

Man your lucky... mine go so hard to turn and normally i would just let off and then turn it. But one day instead of letting off i just turned harder and it broke. Piece of crap.
