You probably had a different problem than us.

well, My knobs never necessarily broke on me. The only problem I have is that My heater/AC only works on High (4). My blower when it starts spinning, Makes a horrible whining sound. So My blower is gone.... I need some freaking transistor as well.

none of this is covered since my car has been out of warranty since like day 1.
I don't really have an exact $ they would charge. My guess it would be in the upper hundreds.

As long as you did not break the know it is a 15 dollar fix. That is the first thing I had to fix when I bought one. It was a design flaw when they made the flapper control. If you look under the drivers dash where the cable connects you will see the two pieces that move to turn the flapper. You can replace that for 15.00 from a part at the mitsu dealership, since the one in there is a flawed design. Like I said as kong as you have not forced the knob and broke it it is a easy fix!!

OH got you SORRY!. I think I was reading somewhere that the whinning is from the blower coming lose from the mount (the fan), not sure if that is true or not but it is worth a look.

I'm having the same problem with my '03 Evo and the cold/heat knob being hard to turn. Usually mine is on cold though so it doesn't bother me that much. A friend of mine recently got some dashboard vandalism fixed and gave me his old (working) Hvac unit from his '06 so I can replace it. Eventually I'll get around to it...

But good luck getting it fixed. It seems like a chronic problem that somehow slipped through the warranty/recall cracks.

I complained about mine when my car (03 Evo) was under warranty. They replaced the whole thing. The bill was $1600 for parts + labor It works fine now

Dealer did mine free of charge, even though it was out of warranty, but it was within a couple months of buying the car.
