Would the stock shift knob work with this shifter? I replaced my stock knob with a metal one a while back but the first hot summer day i got in the car I promptly put the stock one back on after the palm of my hand got FRIED.

It should fit, I was using an evo knob when I had mine.

No, I tried the stock knob to see how it'd look but the metal ring on the shifter that holds the leather boot up (hope you know what I'm talking about cause i don't know how to describe it) is too close to the top of the shifter so the boot can't go down far enough to reach the threads. I like the look of the stock shift knob so I wanted to use it but I couldn't figure out any way to modify it (short of hacking of half of it off) to make it fit. But like I said before, even in direct sunlight, my shift knob hasn't gotten too hot (at least not unbearably) after I applied some Mother's polish to it. Dunno why but so far so good

You can move the metal ring, I got mine to work just fine.

You talking about that little metal ring? If we're on the same page then I'm pretty sure the stock shift knob hits this ring before it reaches the threads. And I'm pretty sure this ring cannot be moved...

I'm curious now so I'm gonna go take a closer look and see if I can get it on. If I succeed I'll repost and state my apologies but i don't think it'll work

Put the stock shift boot over the shifter, that should do it.

Yea that's how I've got it and it works great, there's just no way my stock shift knob would fit

Saw it shorter then. The actual height of the knob is meaningless (other than looks). All that matters is the length of the throw, which is determined by the bottom of the rod.

Alright just get an evo knob then. It's leather and a perfect fit for the palm of your hand. If I still had my car I'd just give you mine but that's obviously not an option.

That's actually a good thing. You want the shift knob as close to the steering wheel as possible, so it's closer to your hand. As Blacksheep mentioned, the throw is the part you want as short as possible.

That's the one gripe I had about my short shifter, it was too short height wise.

Yea I've been browsing the forums looking to buy one, but man some people want so much that I can't justify paying it. We'll see though, maybe I can find a deal somewhere
