I had a different image in mind that I drew up one day. Don't have it on the work computer but it would be more subtle. That image could even theoretically work if the opacity on the image were bumped and blended into the BG more.

Back to the topic on scraping off the yello film in the back...
By scraping off the film, you will create uneven distribution of light, since the back has dark and light spots.
As you can tell from Zack's pictures, it is dimmer around "4" on the tach. This is because there were "black mosaics" behind other numbers that are closer to the light source to reduce the brightness. So by scraping off the yellow film, which includes the "black mosaic", it will create uneven distribution of light.
Let me find the pic, I'll post it up in a few min

I've only scraped off the yellow film behind the tach so I could compare it with the speedo. and there wasn't much of a difference. But now it's dimmer around the "4" on the tach.
