to mod or not to mod
my lancer will be paid off very soon. now poses the question.
do i continue project lancer or start over. just lookin for other lancer guys opinion.
to buy i would look in the sub 20k range. something fairly quick, still return decent gas mileage, sporty looking, affordable insurance.
considering v6's since insurance would be a lil better than a turbo car, but i dont know this to be a fact.
who about some opinions on these cars i'm considering.
2006 tiburon. gt se 6spd, v6 and rrm supports this car. icould still by from them.
2006 mazda6: 3.0 v6, 5spd kinda of a sleeper but a handsome car none the less.
2006 mitsu eclipse: v6, 6 spd. gas guzzler i would assume. but fast.
or should i continue on the lancer. my concerns are finding a good shop to do turbo and tranny work and do it right.
i'd assume many of you have pondered this at some time. just lookin for insight from the outside.

Only you can decide if modding the lancer is worth. From the standpoint of someone who made the switch, I would buy a new car. I didn't like the idea of taking a car and trying to make it something it simply wasn't, a fast sportscar. Yes you can make a lancer fast, but then reliability becomes a potential issue although of course if you take care of it it should be ok. A lancer also will never feel the same as a car designed from the factory to be fast, there isn't an aftermarket company out there that can do what manufacturer's can do simply because of financial constraints. All that being said, there are times when I miss my lancer and wish I had continued modding it.

thats what i'm wondering. those that made the switch are they happy. i have a love hate affair with the ol lance. new cars have that drive by wire, so the throttle is sluggish. i drove a new civic and the delay drove me nuts. icouldnt put up with that.
how bout opinions on the cars i've listed.

Correction, bad drive by wire systems have a delay, there is none with my car.
My insurance went from about 2200$ a year to 2900$ a year. That's for a 22 year old male with complete coverage and some extras (depreciation insurance, glass insurance, etc). Gas mileage went way down, I could get 800 km to a tank with the lancer while now 500 km is about the average.

There is no comparison between a WRX and a lancer, turboed or not. It's just a completely different kind of driving experience. The engine sounds different, the transmission feels different, the steering response is different and of course it's AWD. It's obviously not perfect but I love it.
That explains it, you're over the 25 age hurdle so insurance on any car will be substantially cheaper than it is for me. I would guess you'd pay between 100 and 130 a month for a WRX if that's what you want.
I've heard mixed things about the tiburon but I like them. They look good and are decently fast in the V6 trim. They're also moddable which is nice.

I mod my lancer and it will be paid off in a long 2 years and I plan to keep it and really mod it at that point. If the motor blows. drop in a new motor. I simply like the car. There is allways something faster out there. Its just liking what you have and working on it.
No doubt tho. a wrx or even a honda would be a much better choice to mod.
