"Touring Package" worth it? (09 Lancer GTS)

I've been looking for a new car and I came across the Touring Package which wont be available until the end of June.

It includes HID (auto on/off), Rain sensing wipers, and TCS/SCS.

I'm wondering if you guys think it will be worth the extra cost...

Thanks,
Nathan

Depends on how much it'll cost, no? I asked the Mitsu guy when I bought my car about it but he had no idea what I was talking about. He said that they aren't "updated" on these kinds of things.

I'm going to go back after June and see if they have any information, I would love to buy the Touring package if I could.

I don't think you could add the traction/stability systems at the dealer, if you could it seems like it would be expensive.

I would think the package would be at LEAST $2000 as a option, if it was installed at factory.

What did you pay for your GTS 09 btw?

Yeah I don't think so either. But maybe I can get the xenons for a fairly good price or something! Haha!

I got my 09 GTS for 22K OTD with navi and sunroof. It started at 21K plus tax, dealer fee and GAP. Everything was pretty much smooth sailing, until the finance woman was trying to charge me $700 for GAP, which I got her to lower to $300 and she added in free tire replacements for 3 years. That was only after I caught her in various lies, though.

Yeah the HID's are good but I was concerned about the Stability & Traction Ctrl... I'm not sure how much that really helps in every day driving though to be honest.

I was looking at the Navi & Sun and Sound Pkg also, sticker is $23,300 I believe. But I didn't even try to work the numbers as I'm not sure if it's worth it without the Touring Pkg. My friend in NY paid about $25,000 OTD with the Sun and Sound & Nav, gap, and the Extended 100k Bumper-to-Bumper. Problem is I need a car within about 2 weeks so I can't really wait till end of June when the Touring Package officially rolls out.

Eek, I don't like your friend's price. Do not pay MSRP (sticker price), go for invoice. Basically what I did, I called a dealer and he gave me a price. I called another, and asked if he can give me a better offer. He did. I called another, and asked for a better offer. If he could not give me a better deal, I would call one of the dealers I had previously called - and told them I wasn't buying their car because I got a better deal. They usually bit the bait.

Also, you don't need extended warranty on a brand new car. Especially not a Mitsubishi, since their warranty is already very good. Don't let yourself get taken. Good luck!

Well, what I had planned on doing was taking his invoice down to the dealership and swapping that extended bumper to bumper out for the touring pkg . How do you like your 09 so far?

Did you get the sound package too(650w Rockford) or just the moonroof(I believe you can get the moonroof without the sun and sound pkg, thats why I ask)?

The Rockford Fosgate sound system comes with the sunroof which is one pkg (Sun and Sound Pkg) and the Navi is the other one. I got both packages. I wanted the Touring as well, but the guy had no clue what I was going on about.

I love the car so far...have had no problems at all. It doesn't act like an economy car one bit, you can customize pretty much anything in the car (wipers, lights, locking/unlocking, fast key options, speakers, language, metric system, you name it) all with the navi screen - and the other little screen (in between your gauges) warns you of absolutely everything. Great car, it's ridiculously underrated.

my personal opinion is, the person that came up with this idea is not very smart. here is the logic behind my opinion.

We have already so much product overlap, Its mind boggling why they are attempting to further blur the line between the Lancer RalliArt and EVO X.

Someone needs to be fired

If you got both packages for $22k OTD I think I might be interested in this car for that price even if I can't get the touring package. I wish I had an invoice to match the price. I don't know how it is over there but here we have 4 Mitsu dealers and 2 of them are the same company.

I got my 09 with Nav and Sun Sound for 22.5k OTD

I would have surely considered the touring package had it been out when I bought the car, but oh well I'm sure its at least another 2 grand more. The only thing I'd love to have are the HID projector headlights. If the US touring package came with leather and heated seats too, then i would definitely have wanted it.

i'm GUESSING they'll probably charge u around $2000 for the package and the only thing that i would want are the HIDs. i could care less about rain sensing wipers and i wouldn't need tranction control. so to me $2000 for HIDs are wayyy too much. i would just get an aftermarket one once they're out. but it just depends on what u consider important to have.

Ah, there could be the reason why you two got them for so cheap... I see that you got manual...

@ MusicaChic, is yours manual or automatic?

Thanks again to everyone who has inputted so far

^^ Yea mine was a manual. The final sale price we agreed on was 22k and then they took off 500 for the new grad discount and then taxes were about 1k, so all in all it was 22.5k out the door for a manual 09 with sun/sound and nav

No I don't drive manual, mine is the CVT. By the way they also gave me the $500 off for being a new grad too, although I graduated college in early 2006!

Make sure you get your packages at invoice pricing as well. If none of the four dealers in your area cave, call another dealer in another city - even if you have to drive an hour or two. Most times dealers outside of your city will give you a better deal, since they know that they won't get your business if they don't make it good enough for you to drive there.
