Question Rust blisters on rims? Help with complaint.

To make a long story short, I had 2 tires changed on my '03 Lancer at Canadian Tire, and there was extensive damage done to my rims. It looks like someone used a tire iron to pry the tires from the rims, chipping the rims all the way around on both tires.

I filed a complaint, and the service manager said that these are rust blisters caused by the Canadian winter and would not compensate me.

I don't really believe this answer, as my dad's car does not have this problem, and he has had his Protege 5 as long as mine, and his tires were changed recently as well. Also, rims should be coated to handle salt and weather conditions anyway.

Any opinions? Please keep the answers civil, as I would like to use the information gathered from this thread to further my case with Canadian Tire.

Some pics of the damaged rims (the first 3 are of the damaged rims, the last 2 are the okay ones):

do you have something like the better businesses bureau in CA? if you do--file a complaint against the company with them.

Thanks, yes we do, but I was hoping to give them a chance to come to an agreement with me regarding the damage before taking it any further.

If I cannot get a straight answer from them, I will take my case to the Consumerist website, file a BBB report, as well as other methods.

Just file the report anyways. Then they will take you seriously.

Picture number 2 definitely looks like there was corrosion under the paint. #1 & #3 you can still see blisters? You don't have a leg to stand on.

^That was your first mistake. Take the wheels back up there, tell them what they did, and if they refuse to help you, take action.

Or you could take the diy route and sand down the lip, and re-paint it.

Am I the only one that can see? You don't have a leg to stand on.

And changing tires doesn't do that, it was a pre-existing condition.

That looks more like a factory defect than a bad tire change. I'm sure they didn't do the best job in the world changing them but there was definately a pre-existing problem judging from the pics.

Sorry if the pictures are unclear. The paint are not only chipped, the aluminum on the rims is actually chipped right off.

I still think this is from using some kind of pry bar against a softer object, similar to if you use a wood block as a lever for prying something. The softer object gets dented in the process.

And let me repeat that there was absolutely no damage to the rims prior to CT changing the tires. Even if there was a defect under the tires, it has now been spread to the exterior and is very noticeable.

cfdfireman1, no need continuously mention that I don't have a leg to stand on, and yes, changing the tires in the proper manner shouldn't cause this kind of damage, but I'm trying to point out that they rushed the job and used improper tools and technique to change my tires.

Show us a close up of an "okay one" maybe I'm missing something.

But it's like taking your car to a car wash with the paint all bubbled lose and rust under it and blaming them for the paint falling off.

You said "It looks like someone used a tire iron to pry the tires from the rims" guess what? That's how it's done.

These are just larger versions of the attachments above. I forgot to mention the first 3 are the bad ones, and the last 2 are the ok ones.

BAD:

GOOD:

One thing I just noticed the 2 bad are on the front and the 2 good ones are on the back, less heat less salty slush and less stress on them.
