Here's where the battery use to be. Notice the big red cable coming from the fire wall ending with the connectors wrapped in electrical tape. I zip tied that in place to be safe.

Closer shot. You can see we just drilled small holes into the floor pan and hooked the J hooks through them. It works fine, the battery doesn't budge and tech inspection at local SCCA events cleared it.

Other than the weight distribution, it frees up engine space. I used the space for intake ducting, put a CAI on an auto Lancer. Vince used it to put an intercooler on his auto. For track events, I plan on removing the left headlight altogether for the most air possible! That's about it.

Here's a pic of the ducting. 4" ducting routed from a funnel I bolted to the bottom mud guar (could also come from the left side grill if you want)

This would help with either getting a smaller battery (I hear the stock cables don't reach) or moving it to the trunk (like I did)

If I were to do this on my auto, would I then be able to get a CAI?

yes, although you might have to alter the piping a little bit. We're still trying to decide if you can just twist the connections a little or if you need to find different piping. If anyone in So Cali is willing to let us install and then uninstall their CAI on an auto with the battery gone, let us know and we'll post a ful report.

urban is that a gel or lead-acid? i remember this was discussed awhile back... but i couldnt find the thread... i finally remembered why when you put the battery in the trunk you are supposed to use a gel one. It was not b/c of a wreck and didnt want acid all over the place... but b/c on a hot day the lead-acid battery can start vent fumes = poison

it's the stock battery, but I don't see the danger in fumes from the trunk, as the trunk is actually vented as well as behind the driver. I also don't know why NHRA requires a shut-off switch only for relocatd batteries though. My father's car has a lead-acid battery located in the trunk from stock, and the only extra layer it has over mine is that it is under the trunk carpet instead of over it. I dunno.

maybe that it is just for hb or the such where the trunk has no seperation. i.e. you strip out the car for just racing.

Hey did you try running the ducting behind the headlight? I used 3" dryer hose and just had to bend a little metal plate a little bit. But besides that and a little denting of the ducting it fits perfectly. AND it's not close to the engine too.
