alright here goes:
stoich(iometric) burn is the air/fuel ratio at which there is neither excess fuel nor air in the burn. For gasoline this is a 14.7:1 AFR (it may actually be 14.68:1, but I don't remember exactly) This is bad for an engine. It creates too much heat and results in an explosion (explosions in the combustion chamber are referred to as "knock" ). Lower AFRs indicate that there's more fuel in the combustion than is needed for a perferct burn and allows some of the heat from the engine to be absorbed by the fuel. yes, gas acts like a coolant inside the engine. The drops of fuel are sprayed in by the injectors. Not all of this is fine enough to stay in suspension with the air that's in the chamber. Some lands on the walls and on the piston and evaporates into the air/fuel mix. Keeping the air and fuel mixed is important. That's why polishing the runners on the intake side os bad. The air comes straight in and has to hit the cylinder wall before it really starts to move around. On the other hand, if the air is already tumbling as it comes into the chamber, the mix is more homogenous (think of the fats in milk being spread equally throughout the volume of the container and not separating like in cream- thats homogeneity).
Stock is in the 10:1 range... it's disgusting rich

Anyway, for most folks, they shoot for a 12.5:1 AFR. It's safe enough. If you get a spot of lower octane gas you're less likely to knock because there's extra fuel there to absorb some of the heat and to keep the flame burning evenly. I'm crazy and am going to try to get around 13-13.5



As for our lifters: they're hydraulic self adjusting lifters. we don't have tappets. Tappets are on 'merican cars and need little screwdrivers to adjust them. All you probably want to to to yours is take a paperclip and poke in the hole that's in the lifter to release the pressure of the oil that's in there. When you reinstall the lifters will make a horrible clicking noise for a couple minutes until they refill with oil.
The lift adjusters sit in the rocker arms, that is attached to the rocker bar. The rocker arms have bearings on one end and those make contact with the cam. the rocker bar acts as a fulcrum, the rocker arm is the lever that pushes the valve down. The valve spring pushes the valve closed.... rinse repeat as necessary

This is great...watching the "evolution" of everyone's tuning. We've gone from which is the best intake to A/F ratios and tuning for max power.

Where are we at right now on this? Who is the fastest? I'm at 16.4xx, it's in the timeslips and that's stock.

I think Peteybab is still the quickest USDM lancer to date - i checked the time slips section and he has a 16.2x.

I am shooting for quickest when i get back from this deployment to the middle east that i'm on right now.

16.4xx stock?! You're full of it. Base Lancers run in the 17's stock.

I kind of agree with that statement. I'm no pro but the BEST i could manage near stock was 17.235

Altho i never ran mine bone stock - i had just a CAI ( full interior too ) and managed a 16.90 on my very first pass in the car

all of the car mags had 17.3-ish and no one on here has been able to do any better than what Wadad just posted.

I just looked at your cardomain site, and I think the problem is you THINK it's stock. You bought it used off of a lot, and 99.999% of the time dealers have no idea what the actual history of a vehicle is. If you were to look at my engine bay, having never seen a Lancer before, you'd say that all I'd done was paint the valve cover. And you'd be 100% wrong. If the previous owner had a throttle body, header, intake (c'mon, you gotta at least have an intake) ECU reflash/piggyback (look behind the glove box and see if there are two black boxes. if there are, then you have a RRM piggyback), or a host of other mods you may have inherited them, but not know it.

So, congrats on your 16.4, but have someone who knows Lancers take a look and verify what your mods really are.

I tell you what guys...if you check the slips section then RarStlzLncr should be the fastest NA lancer.

Although he did not run the best time he or she ran a 16.278 with a 2.570 60foot. Now that if it is true is impressive.

eeeerrrrr!! (brakes squealing sound effect). 2.5 sec 60' and you get a 16.4 ET? What, are you running the same downhill track that other guy was? I'm gonna have to find this slip....
