rrm header installed ... should it sound RICEY?
So i just installed my RRM header. I notice that once I hit about 3200-3500 rpm's, it starts sounding really ricey. Anyone else have this? Is this normal
Here are my supporting mods:
Buschur 2.5" catback
2.5" test pipe
SRI
Will installing my 2nd cat back in help this??
Im pretty sure I don't have an exhaust leak, but it definately sounds ricey, from the front of the car. Just wanna make sure this is as designed heh
btw - performance on it kicks ***. the **** dyno feels it.
dig

i have the same problem but i have a kamikaze header. when it starts going to higher revs it makes this buzzing sound until it changes gears. i hate it, but i love that it doesnt stop pulling, i.e. i love the power.

I dont have headers but from everythin that i read(a **** load) headers always make your car sound ricey. Puting the cat back on would help with the sound def. But i would go with what you got cuz faster is better.

Yes, I have the RRM headers and that's how it sounds when you get higher up in RPMs, raspy sound...
I got the RRM Piggyback and some of that sound seemed to go away, maybe not though, it might just be in my head.
Also, put your second cat back on and it will be a little less raspy, having a test pipe or high flow cat or whatever doesn't do much... unless you have turbo.

thanks guys. the term "raspy" sounds 100% as to what i'm hearing. i'll bear with it and suppose i'll get used to it. i'll just crank up the music heh the performance is definately worth the sound.

Part of it can be the elimination of a resonator.
When I had both header and test pipe for my G93 on stock exhaust . . . I didn't get any of such noise. My motor did suck it a lot more than it can exhale out of the tailpipe. When that happened, my muffler sounded like it was going to rattle off its hinges. Its acoustic would change to the sound of gas trying to escape but nowhere to go.
A lot of people would solve their ricey noise if they are will to put their resonator back on.

the more open the exhaust, the noisier it gets. It's a 4 cylinder so it will sound harsh. But set up well it'll sound more like a sport bike than a ricer. But that takes some serious exhaust etc. Part of 4 cylinders (unless they are turboed) is that they sound kinda crappy. Oh well I guess! I'd rather have the performance.

i've noticed that people with test pipes, and custom cat backs have this problem. i think the combo of the test pipe, and no resonator make a big difference. i have the kamikaze header, stock cat, and dc sports cat back exhaust. my car sounds nice and deep. not too loud, not too soft, basically perfect. so it all depends on the setup.

i installed a header and axleback all at once, and i noticed the header changed sounds a bit as i drove it more and more, and it eventually took on a somewhat lower note, some people call it a "break-in" i think it just has to do with buildup on the walls of the header, so it might change tones a LITTLE

actually i had the rrm header, test pipe the the magnaflow axleback and still had the noise u mentioned. so i dun think putting the resonator back on will help. but i was told that puttin the second cat back on will help a lil.
