EVO and the 4G63

Hi everyone Im new

Ive been watching the forums and decided to join. With the possibility of me actually getting an EVO appearing I decided Id take part on the board.

well here goes my question.
I drive a 2gen AWD Talon. For those of you that dont know the 2gen DSM motors (7 bolt 4G63) are notorious for crankwalk (thrust bearing failure) and its an expensive repair, to the note of a new bottom end.

While the lancer uses a '4G63' dubbed enigine I noticed the cam gears on the opposite side of that on the DSM's. What gives?
Apparently its not the same.

Why the same naming? becuase its a mitsu turbo DOHC 2.0??
What about crankwalk? Whats the flywheel pattern, 6 or 7?

Im buying an VII if they/when they come regardless, but Id like some thoughts

The 4G63T was dated back to the early 80's....the first model that came to mind was the Galant VR-4 participating in the WRC, that 4G63T produced 205-210hp (same as 1G/2G 4G63T), so you can think of it that DSM is using a engine designed over 10 years ago by Mistu.....

Anyhow, then Mitsu elected to put what's good from the VR-4 into a smaller/lighter/more agile chassis, and here comes the Lancer EVO series. From EVO I to III, the output of the 4G63T increased from 210hp to 260hp in EVO III. In 1996, FIA changed the regulation in WRC and it leads to the big change in EVO. EVO IV was the first that utilized the later designed 4G63T (flipped 180 degree from the previous model) and this leads to less understeer that's known for the previous 3 EVO's....

I forgot the exact name of the new AWD system, but Mitsu did redesigned the whole system and added in the AYC in EVO IV....

Hope this helps to clear up some questions you have.
