Not to be a jerk, but a quick search for "flywheel lancer" got me this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...lywheel+lancer

I recall reading it a few months back, but it seems that the weight savings is minimal, as the Lancer's flywheel is pretty light from stock (read the post reply from Pjal84). But there you go, here's your lightweight flywheel if you decide on it.

yeah, i searched a little bit, but it was late so i just started a thread. besides, it could help other people to find out that we don't really need a lightened flywheel. anyway, thanks urbanknight for the info.

actually if i remember correctly even though you cant remove any mass from it... i think you could make it out of a lighter material... i think a company fizdana or something close to that makes it

not sure if I understood that. You mean it has to be the same size, but it can be made lighter? The link I posted above discusses the Fidanza flywheel, and they seem to agree that it's lighter, just not sure how much.

my bad brian... i ment even though removing more material from it would make it weak... that you could make it out of a lighter material and have the same strength, and have it the same size

Yeah, that's what I figured you said. It seems that's what Fidanze had in mind.

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/c...ywheeltech.htm

Fidanza uses chrome-moly material. It's super lightweight, but it can't take the constant heat stress from too many hard launching. Look at RRE/RRM's site . . . go to the DSM section and read their tech on the flywheel.

From the 240 guys w/ SR20 swaps along with their heavier brothren the 300ZXT, those sub 10 lbs flywheel can't produce enough rotational mass to propel the car off the line, and a harsher/performance clutch setup can produce enough heat to stress the chrome moly material.

Locally, there a 1g AWD DSM who took out his fidanza flywheel. Since he was well respected and a great mechanic, I didn't want to tell him that his sub 500 bucks flywheel just don't like 1/4 mile sprints. The flywheel showed signs of heat stress.

AutoX is great for light flywheel.
