who doesn't think the lancer is slow?
hi. i currently own a 2004 oz rally and i was wondering why people think it is so slow. i know it doesn't 12.0s but it's still got some ummpf. from my experience my car has held its own against all those riced out civics that think they are fast. also do the 2001-2003 have auto overdrive? i know my car does and it really makes a difference. I have an auto and i noticed that when i floor it then car doesn't really accelerate that fast but when i quickly press the pedal about a 1/4 way downm it will accelerate a lot faster and it also turns on the overdrive. this works really well when passing on the freeway. anyone else try this?

ok u have a 2004 lancer with mivec i think... almost 180 hp... everyone before 2004 has a non-mivec engine... thus making our hp figures 120... das y its slow... i'ld take a ralliart over my lancer ne day

I think most people will say slow compared to what?? I guess that is the real question. We can't expect our little cars to keep up with everything, we didn't buy a race car we bought an econobox. Good gas mileage and etc. BUT that doesn't mean we can't turn into something that will give hell to people on the streets. I'd say in my opinion we could use a little more ummph(Glad they made the MIVEC Engines in the ralliart). But the car is decent compared to like civics, accords and etc.

Hey i am pretty sure the 2004 lancers (non ralliart or evo) has the 120 non mivec engine. I the over drive is turned off in third gear, allowing the rpm to spike and creating more power. Im not an engineering genius, and I havent been keeping up on the newist models, so correct me if i am wrong. Thanks, all...TTYL

Bottom line, as far as a ricers' dream, the Lancer is not a speeding bullet. Most other 4 cyl. cars can take it in a line. Fact of the matter is, when someone jumps on an exit ramp and gets wasted by a Suburban or something that wants to cut them off, they start to feel the car is pretty slow.
Although the Lancer is far from a race machine, it can handle quite a few other vehicles in and around it's price range. The benefit to the lancer, is that it is nicely equipped for its price range, what with power everything and stock CD audio.
People think the car is slow for one of two reasons:
1) They own one and have been in situtations where the car doesn't perform the way they like
2) They read 120Hp and think that because it's under 200, the car is an automatic slug.
For those of you that have one of these cars and think it's slow because it's let you down, I'm sorry. Have fun when you turn on the A/C.
For those of you looking at Hp numbers, the 5 liter V8 that powered many 1970s Mustangs (not the crappy 5.0 we got in the 80s) only produced 130Hp. It produced more torque however, and that's why it was still fast. For that reason, the Lancer is faster than some 140Hp cars...that whopping 130 ft/lbs. That's something no Civic can touch.

the base lancer engine has more torque than the civic models as well as more horsepower than the LX and DX models.
they should come out with a v6 3.8 liter model like the galant and have a bigger engine lancer without having to go to the grandma style galant. just a thought

well the lancer isnt that bad if ur not really into cars considering u get quite a bit of goodies like power everything, but when want to beef ur car up and u have an auto the lancer is kinda crap but the 5spd has potential

alright kids, i used to be into american muscle, im white what can i say? anyway, i have a 1964 mustang with a 289 small block V8 pushin way over 270 hp, now heres the thing, it was slow as hell, it had the aerodynamics of a school bus, handling sucked, brakes sucked, and the sucker was so heavy that it honestly wasnt fast at all, and i broke 5 motor mounts so i know it had an a$$load of tourqe, then i aquired my lancer, i raced my mustang, my lancer beat it hard, the lancer for what it is, has a good amount of tourqe, beats civic's, responds better to mods then ive seen any of my friends cars do, and has the aerodynamics to actually get to high speeds and still grip the road.
i think everyone here thinks the lancer is slow because of all the EVO talk shoved in our faces everytime we load the site, but we need to remember how much money we paid for what we got, and in my opinion, i got my bang for my buck, and i am thankful for that
