How do I gap spark plugs?

I know how to change the spark plugs and everybody says to Gap them. When I buy them, they game pregapped at .044. How do I regap them myself, I can't figure it out and I didn't find anything on here by using the search button. I know there is a Gapping tool, I have that but it didn't come with instructions on how to gap. I can't figure it out. Please help, I'd like to gap at .039.

I just changed out spark plugs for the first time ever last night. God knows I'm know expert. But, I bought the gap measuring piece for like 98 cents at autozone. I put the plug on .25mm spot(what was recommended) and pushed down top of plugs

sounds easy enough. that's what i was thinking to do, but i don't wanna **** it up. I just wanna make sure i do it correctly. I have an 02 OZ, so recommended gap is .039-.043. Thanks... By the way, I just evolved...

i have never gapped them either, but keep this in mind: do not try to gap the iridium or platinum plugs, because i'm been told constantly they are too brittle and will break. you can gap copper plugs fine though

Its very easy if you buy the 98 cent tool at auto zone. Just put your plug on the guage and slide it around bending it until you get to the point on the guage marked .039 and whualla you have gapped your plug.

How do you do gap it tighter? (not wider)
I have the autozone/advanced auto gap tool thing that looks like a quarter.

Just push down on the spark plug tip? The gapping tool is only meant to widen the gap (unless there is some crazy trick to it that I don't know about).

Very lightly tap the tip of the plug. Continually check the gap as you are doing it.

I have never heard of the rule to not gap iridium or platinum plugs. This simply makes no sense. Are you to assume that all platinum and iridium plugs come perfectly gapped for the cars you are going to run them in? I have gapped them and never had a problem
