Avoid Catch-Can problems...

Just recently I installed an Oil Catck-Can. I love it and I was prowd of my install. When I took it for a ride, my oil pressure was 100psi when wide-open.

the problem is as follows...

the catch-can made a air-tight seal which cause the high pressure. to solve this, simply drill a few holes in the TOP to release pressure.

the intall involve:
1. mounting the can, use self-tapping screws.
2. run the (2) hoses from you valve cover (one on top, one on driver side) to the two outlets on the can.
3. the two place that the hoses were connected to (one is on the black intake tube right at the trottle body (cold air kits don't have them),and the other is on the front of the intake manifold) need to be sealed with vacuum caps.
4. drill a couple holes in the top to releave pressure.

I now many will think this is simple task, but maybe this will help others( like me ) who's blood is lower in octane...

You were not supposed to mount your catch can like that thats why your pressure went through the roof. One side was for the side of the head and the other for the return to the intake tube.

Though you did a good job by venting the can and keeping the pressure down. You have now immitated the arc style can minus the retun hose to the intake again (or to the ground like they describe in their directions)...

No need for a vent hose now.

Your PCV is VTA. LOL

Oh, I get to say it!

It catches the oil!

Basically, when I was changing intakes once, I noticed black sludge in the piping (after the spot where the valve cover air is routed back into the intake). That was what's known as "blow-by." It is oil that blew through the valvetrain and is circulating in the air.

So I got a catchcan to can the oil particles before they could get sucked back into my intake.

did you install your catch can wrong too?

Just a note to n00bs: this is how to fix a problem after you install the catch can incorrectly. if you install it right, this stuff will not happen

usually none, unless you are forced induction where it becomes a bit more of an issue cause of the extra pressure and air flow from the boost.

edit: oh btw, your racing options front and rear sway bars don't exist, perhaps you mean strut bars?

So the oil catch can is just like putting a little container in between the tube connecting your valve cover to your intake piping.??? It kinda looked like an Ebay item... is it??

Yes, that's what the oil catch can is.

You can get them on eBay, Summit/Jegs, or GReddy/ARC/etc. They all do the same. It's just a different logo. And you pay for the name brand.

I've never heard of someone putting a catch-can on a n/a car before this one.
