(im a honda guy so i know my way around them 
) you can make your d16 fast .boosted... or you could swap and go for a B series or even K or H series i would recommend keeping the EK and dropping a b18c5 in it .....but if you do get a lancer get a ES 
because the OZ has the same engine but is just more comfort and show(thus more weight to the car)........if you look in the timeslips on here you can notice that the oz's are slower (stock) than the rest of the models

^I totally agree that you can make a D-series fast...hell, I'm piecing together a kit for 300hp on my DD! But with that vtec-e, it won't do as well as say my Z6 (OBDI) or the Y8 (ODBII).

^Well, lets start at your budget...Do you have a lump sum to drop on the purchase, or will you need to get a loan? How about insurance? Does your insurance company consider you a "risk"?

well i got about 8k tops to spend but thats if i REALLY like and for insurance i am considered a risk but only because i am under 21 but i have alot of experience driving so im not looking for a "first car"

^^Why not keep the Civic, read up on turbod16.com & d-series.org about turboing your ride, and spend less than $2k to get 300hp! That's for the motor, internals, and the turbo kit. Tuning probably a tad bit more, but you get the idea.
...and I can hear you say, well I don't know anything about turbo'ing a car. Well, just a year ago when I got my Civic I didn't know squat either. Now I can rebuild a Honda motor, troubleshoot, tune (if I purchase the right equipment), and turbo all knowledge gained for those sites. Trust me, you'll enjoy! Hell, you can even turbo your car with the current motor if desired. Many out there with the exact same car/motor running DDs reliably @ 160-200hp!

I love my lancer, but when I had my honda I could do anything to it and I would notice a difference whether it be intake or exhaust, you felt it. You can still get some decent hp out of the lancer but you need to spend a lot to get there. It's no doubt that honda's have a much better tuner base, the engine just responds so much better.
and BTW you can feel mods on Lancers..... or at least on my ES (FTW)

civic is easier to work with.... the lancer has more torque though (stock vs stock) you can swap eclipse motors into a lancer though (im working on that right now) overall the civic will give u less headache for less $

Looking for a sporty car for around $8k that you can mod and has good hp stock? If you like the Mitsu family, go for the late 90's model Eclipse. GS-T or GS-X are both turbo. GS-X is also all wheel drive. I think the stock hp is around 200-220. If I had it to do over again I would've found a GS-X and passed on the OZ Rally.

d series what go b series more potential for power and what do you mean vtech isnt mod friendly uh its pretty easy i had a b16b in a 89 crx and i had it fully stripped weighing in at 1400lbs redline was 13k and could knock the wind out of pretty much any thing stock turbo. Honda motors are much more friendly to mods
I say stick with the honda.
