cv boot

Dealership will replace the boot and repack the grease for about $75 (well, mine did). Just yank it out and take it up there (call ahead so they can get it done quickly).

I damaged my boot installing coilovers.... oops.
ordered boot from mitsu (noone elsecarried it)... You have to first undoo the boot side from the hub. You have to take the huge hub nut off.. I had impact gun to do this... Cut the boot off.. clean grease off... then yank the shaft out of the tranny... Just a C clip holds it in..
Then you can to bang the end off... I used a vise to hold the shaft and a peice of wood and a hammer to beat it off to get the boot on... Go to autozone and rent a cv boot strap clamp tool. I broke a set of angle cutters trying to tighten the clamps. Had to go rent that. clea it up... put back on car. pack with grease. fun time.
It really is just a pain in the ***. plenty of cursing over this one stupid boot. lol

I replaced a boot once on a previous car I owned. Probably won't ever do that again. Eventually the joint went bad anyway so I bought a new half axel from Advanced Auto Parts (after core trade in it was only about $60) then I had a shop put the new axel in for about $45...if I remember correctly. One thing to keep in mind is that, if your cv joint is making noise while going around turns, it's too late for the boot, you need to replace that side of the axel. Whatever you decide, good luck.

If it's leaking greese all over you might want to think about changing the CV joint. If greese can get out then crap can get in. You might just be puting money into something you will need to replace soon anyway. Just my thoughts.
