camshafts

i removed my camshafts last month and thought that i had sotred them well, but when i pulled them out there was light surface rust. i would like to clean that off, is this a similar concern of yours? i thought about takng my dremel and a soft abrasive/polishing brush but i wonder if even that might be too much..?

The only thing you should use is alchohol no abrasive brushes, pads wheels, or cleaners, it will ruin your cams. Nothing with water in it, it will rust your cams. If they are rusted use wd40, rub them with wd40 soaked clothe till the rust is removed. This is the only way to take care of cams without ruining them.

I'd second this response.

cam clean

Alcohol huh? then what am i going to drink?
seriously though, WD 40 is not alcohol based? so the idea is not to 'scrub' the lobes any, just a little polishing to remove the surface rust, right?

Do not use brake clean. Use the wd40 to remove the rust if there is any then follow through with alchohol after that. If there's no rust then just use alchohol. But please do not use brake clean, it has water in it and other harmfull detergents. spray wd40 on the cams then take some nice cloth maybe a micro fiber and polish them till there clean it will take awhile depending on how much rust, just watch tv while you do it. Then alchohol to finish.
