intake filter

i was looking at replacing the stock intake filter with a aftermarket cone filter.
will replacing the stock one increase my performance at all? and will the aftermarket filter do any harm to the car? and last question is installing a cone filter simple as just replacing the stock one?

Thanks in advance, im really new to cars in general

there are already a couple threads on this sitting around.

Coles note:

1.) Barely
2.) Probably not
3.) No

either get the drop in from Works, or get an intake from Injen

there is one called a new take on intake.

minus the SRI or CAI that is your best bet.

Quickie guide:

1. Remove the wiring from the MAF (can be done by hand) and then take the clip out of the intake box (probably need a tool).
2. Remove the big rubber hose attached to the side of the intake box.
3. Remove the bolt holding the intake box in (M10 socket, probably need an extension).
4. Loosen the clamp holding the rubber intake tube to the intake box (same M10 will work, or it's threaded for a Phillips screwdriver).
5. Pull the entire box up and out of the car. It sits on two pegs, so make sure you pull up and off of them.
6. Remove the two clips, open the box.
7. Remove stock filter, throw away.
8. Insert new filter, make sure it goes in correctly (the work "WORKS" should be facing the driver's side of the car when installed properly).
9. MAKE SURE THE BOX IS CLOSED. Look at the bottom and make sure the tabs are in the holes and the box is fully closed and sealed.
10. Put the box back in place.
11. Bolt it back down.
12. Put the rubber hose back.
13. Put the MAF wire back.
Done!

No, there is no how to for it yet. Hell, I don't even think it's possible to JUST install a cone filter. I did a writeup for the RRM SRI, which uses a cone filter, but you need the MAF pipe too...

Well, there are RRM-ripoff intakes on eBay from time to time, but I didn't see any right now. You might be able to piece together something from Autozone/PepBoys/etc - they usually sell universal stuff like MAF adapters. You should be able to buy one of those and a cone filter and be pretty good.
