It's not a recall, it's a TSB. What that means is if you still have a warranty, they'll cover it otherwise they won't. I was quoted 1500$ with my lancer because they have to replace not just the knobs but the heater unit itself to solve the problem.

Just be careful with it, I had mine done under warranty and it's still stiff, but then again I can count on two hands the number of times i've turned the knob from hot to cold anyway...

I broke my heating knob off this last summer and took a screwdriver under the driver side and pushed up the heating door.

To fix this problem i went and bought the blend door kit, and the linkage kit. However, since breaking my heating knob off, could you help me find somewhere to buy the Control Heat for all the knobs? I've been looking inncenstantly with no results. Help is greatly appreciated with a link, or helping me hunt one down.

EDIT: my car is NOT under warrenty still.

Mitsubishiparts.com lists the dash control unit at $220.56. Since that site ships through a dealer parts dept, I have no idea where they come up with over $600 in labor quotes to replace that thing. It doesn't look hard.

Is it just your knob/dial that's broken or is it the white plastic stem that broke off inside the knob? Not sure that stem can be replaced without buying the whole unit.

I just lay down under my steering wheel and manually change it twice a year, it sucks but it only takes 2 seconds and I'd rather not spend anything on that

If anyone sees this and needs more info, please see my thread in my signature. I am still working on it but it covers a lot of these issues. I've tried to roll all the threads and knowledge into one guide as best I can!

Could someone please explain how to manually change it? I tried to turn on my defrost tonight but the temperature knob wouldn't go over to the hot side like usual. Right now it's stuck on the cold side.

Thanks!

*edit*

I figured out which wire to pull on to control my temperature, but the air coming out of the vents isn't hot at all and I can get the temperature knob to go all the way to the right whenever I pull on the cable. Any advice on what might be going on?

Did you buy the shaft and swap it out? I have a friend that has the same problem. If so was it easy to change out? Thanx.
