Plastidip Question

I'm looking at plastidipping the chrome grill piece on my GTS and I am just wondering how everyone went about doing it... I.E. taping off the everything but the chrome trim then spraying, or spraying over the trim and grill.

I've never plastidipped before and i don't want it to come out looking like crap..

Also, sorry if this is a repost, but there are a crap ton of posts relating to plastidip and i didn't see any regarding my question - Maybe i should have looked more

tape off parts you dont' want coated, leave parts you want coated revealed, be careful or score the edge of the tape when pulling it off because plastidip tends to form a uniform coating that will pull on itself

yeah i heard that you lay down one layer on w/e you dont want painted, then lay another layer, and after the first coat of plasti-dip you peel that second layer off, and put on another layer, and keep peeling off/re-applying between each coat so the plasti-dip doesn't stick to the tape and peel off the car when you peel the tape off.

You should probably just not use plasti-dip, i know it's removable and everything, but why remove it.

It's nice to remove it if you don't like it, vs risking it and sanding down the chrome overlay and painting. I have a spare front grill and chrome trim, but i'd rather save time and plastidip it vs taking the time to sand it down and paint it

I would just remove it and plastidip it instead of taping everything off. It comes off in a matter of minutes.

I am as well thinking about blacking out the front of my silver lancer but have never done it before. Im going to do the chrome on the front but i also want to do the middle body piece that runs across the front too. Can you plasti dip the body piece that runs between the two grills in the front as well or how do you blacken that?b

The plastidip works great on he chrome outlay of the top grill.

As for th center part of the bumper, I got mine professionally painted matte black and it looks really good. Just need to paint my Mitsu logo red now
