Door speaker mounts?

I'm putting new speakers into the front doors on my 2010 GTS (without SS package), and don't want to cut the old speakers. Crutchfield says this fits:

Does it really fit? Has anyone tried it?

when i swapped out the speakers in my 06 RA i had to find some wood ones that were made for mitsu's had some issues with all the holes lining up

also wouldn't bother switching speakers unless you have an aftermarket head unit at the minimum to go with it... better to have an amp as well

2 options:

-cut the "clips" that the stock speakers are held in with to fit a true 6.5" speaker

or

-get spacers to move the speaker away from the door a little to clear those clips.

once you take the stock speakers out and try to fit in the aftermarket speaker, you'll know what im talking about. i just cut the clips, but wound up having to use spacers anyways because my magnets are so huge.

Did you have to twist your speakers to get them out? If so, there should be clips on the back of the speaker and slots in the door that the clips fit and twist into. Sorry, I meant to say slots on the door, and clips on the speaker.

oooo ok. i gotcha. Is there anyway I can mount the new speakers without modding, cutting, or doing anything like that? I don't have the tools for it readily available, and Id rather not have to do it...

the only thing you can do, which isnt a bad idea, is use a spacer of the right depth between the speaker and door, so the cone fits inside the opening. fortunately, there is a huge space between where the speaker mounts and the built in grille in the door panel, so you actually could space the speaker out a few inches if you wanted. heres a quick pic to try and help explain what i mean

i did my speaker install a while ago, so I forget exactly how much a 6.5" speaker sticks out without cutting those slots off, try it and see. i just went ahead and cut them off, but i wound up having to use spacers anyways because my magnets are so big that when the window went all the way down, it would hit the back of the magnet.

ok, so if I understand you right, I need to get a spacer, and then when I secure it with the speaker, the screws will need to go through the metal of the door. Right?
And what spacer should I be getting? I saw a forum that talked about one a while ago, but I can't find it now...

just cut the paper speakers. unless you have the rockford speakers the regular speakers are worthless.

Yes, screw it into the door. Usually, good speakers will come with their own spacers in the box, but if not, find some online or make your own out of wood or something.

Before I order this... does it come with screws? If anyone knows? They don't say anywhere whether it does or not... If not, the local home depot should be able to help me.

Yeah looks like it will work. As long as its a 6.5" spacer, it should work. I think 1" deep should be ok.

Ok, i installed my speakers this afternoon. Everything went very smoothly. I did not, however drill into my door. Instead, I used 2" bolts with nuts and washers, and just ran it through the original slots. It all fit near perfectly.
