manual transmission fluid oil question
Its about that the time to change my fluid and i was searching around . I noticed alot of people here were using non oem oil which is the route im heading . so my question is what is the difference between GL-4 and GL-5 oil ? the service manual says GL-4 but i heard other people using mobil 1 or vavoline .

I can attest to this.
I had M1S in my RA for a week, it was a nightmare.
It was too slippery for the synchros to catch properly and nothing was going as planned.
I switched over to sychromax by RP and its been problem free since then.
Im about due for my next change over I believe ... Im up to 80K clicks in the cage.
for the amount. I believe i bought 3 quarts and just filled it to the brim,
but if you are looking for specs, otter sure is the man.

If you guys cant find BGII, you can also try Penzoil (synchromesh??). I've been running a combination of it and Royal Purple for about 15000 and it has been a lot better than with the factory stuff. I have to admit though, that I can feel the difference in the engagement when the oil is cold vs. when its hot.
