When the check engine light is on, does that signal show up anywhere else?
I hope not, us I was thinking that EG: lets say you need an inspection, and you get new aftermarket headers but they set off your CEL... You dont have the seperate device to shut it off (I forget what thats called)... or perhaps its something else causing it, but its not damage its just your new mod (so you hope)...
Couldnt you disassemble the gauge bezzle and cover the green electronic board where the CEL is, with a peice of Electrical tape so when you put it all back together the light doesnt shine through to the face, to appear as though its not on at all?

Makes sense to me, as long as that signal doesnt go off in some other place.
At least its a temp. fix until you get that other device.

Lemme know, Im kinda curious about this possibility...

Why don't you just take the bulb out? Sounds a lot simpler and obvious.

depending on the inspection, the code will pop up through the obdII port.

It wont work. As soon as they hook up a scanner they will see any stored faults

Well if you open the gauge bezzle youll see its not a seperate bulb for that one signal.

Ya im pretty sure most places that do inspections also do a scan for faults,
but you know how that is.....
i should say reputable places.

So rather than buy the CEL fix, which is 30$ if you buy it or 6$ to make it, lets attempt to cover up the fact a code has been thrown, even though they'll see it when the do the scan, meaning they'll 1. think your gauge is broken and make you replace it or 2. you have to tell them you tried to cheat the system?

Well I posted ths for if you dont have that part (re read)
Anyway, does this thing completely clear everything (someone mentioned a flaw showing up on the "OBDII" sensor) or does it just shut off the light itself?
In other words, how does this thing actually get you through inspection...?
Amby, how do you make it for 6 bucks? Id rather do that then spend 30 on it... I already gotta spend 60 for a Tach-Driver, cus Mitsu's have that friggin' flaw where your aftermarket Tach only registers half the actual RPMs...

A CEL fix clears the problem altogether, it tricks the ECU into thinking nothing is wrong. If you want to know how to make, do a search on anti-fouler, there was a very nice writeup about it. Quick question, why do you have an aftermarket tach? We have tach, only hondas need a huge 8" tach.
