ferrari shift boot, help
#18
theres alot more play in our cars than Ferrari's have... Their shift is stiff and direct, its pretty hard to miss gears, it just slides right in perfect so they can get away with the plate... If you do decied to do it i would make the gapping as large as possible or maybe just make a shorter boot like how bmw makes their auto boots. there maybe 2 inchs of leather versus 10-12...
Cheers!

CoastieOZ I cant find the pic. i been looking all over.
I might suggest also trying plexi glass instead of aluminum.
I know this is not the exact pic, BUT its the idea. this is civic DIY shifter console.
pics for progress!!!please.

I'd have to agree with the fact that it probably isn't a good idea to limit the travel of the shifter with these cars. I imagine the Ferraris are very specific in terms of gear selection. I'd just get a better looking boot (I agree with you...they look like crapola).

My personal favorite - rally style. Remove the entire center console. I had my Lancer like that for a while (rear seats were out too). The only problem is if you're used to leaning on the console when you get in (I am). You tend to fall on the floor a lot.

The reason Ferraris have that type of plate is because its a gated shifter, it requires precise movement, and to go from 1st to second you actually have to slide the shifter over into nuetral before moving down to 2nd.
That being said, I dont think your idea will work. I could be wrong though. Either way, that type of shift plate will force your shift throws to be more up and down, rather than direct on angles (like 2nd to 3rd), making them slower.
