If your first coat is a little heavy it will run and turn orange. Always spray clearcoat at a distance (8"-12") and very light coats. If you see a spot starting to run then stop spraying. Sand it down and start the clearcoat again.

You should use the duplicolor clearcoat for rims. It's the best one. Just use it as the can says and you should be fine. All clearcoats (duplicolor or paint store clearcoat) are the same. It's just how u use it and the prep-work. Also make sure your area is free of dust, wind, and humidity.

be careful using the duplicolor for your lip
i painted mine with that and it kept chipping bad from rocks on the road
and then when i went to get it painted professionally they charged more because i painted it myself and they had to sand that off
it was a $150 paint job but because i painted it myself with duplicolor it cost $250 because of all the extra work sanding it they had to do

Dude everytime you take your car to be painted it's best to do the prep work. All you should pay them is to paint. Could've saved you $100

yeah check this... i have oz side skirts and rear lip and this front lip...
i went to a shop to see how much they would charge me just to paint it. mind you i was gonna sand it, prep it AND install it and they were gonna charge me 1000 bucks for it!

so anyway if i get a better clear coat it wont chip, and i should go with lighter coats and have a secured area and it will look fine?

And did you tell him to get bent? For a grand you could buy your own air compressor, paint equipment, a nice painters suit and mask and a couple six packs of beer.

Hahaha...
Yep that's alot of money.
But just make sure you area is clean and you prep work is very good. Lots of thin coats and it should be fine.
If you saw my thread I painted my rims, interior, and parts of the body and I haven't had any chipping, peeling or smudging. You just need to have the touch for it like me

Yep I used Duplicolor Rim Paint for the rims and interior. Then Duplicolor Bumper Paint on the body.
