I plan to get 16's on mine. I am willing to give up a little "looks" for a better ride and more protection for the rims. They are less expensive too (I am broke). ANything looks better than these 14" hubcaps. Hahahahaha

Jesus.

I'll put it this way, 18s are asking for trouble.

I'm riding on my stock 14" steelies again for the winter. My Rota 17s are resting for now.

I hit one or two good old Jersey potholes and the rims are ok. My front right strut is pretty much ****ed, I can hear it when I roll over speed bumps.

My brakes have definately taken a hit. I need to get them swapped, all 4 wheels, as soon as possible. I don't brake hard, so I'd have to lean towards the weightier 17s giving the brakes more of a workout.

Lastly, I was close to having rubbing issues on my ES. 18s will probably toe the line quite dangerously and will look ridiculously large on a stock ES.

Just my advice, though.

Well ive asked plenty of 18 owners about rubbing issues and theyve told me they have no problems at all.

18s are not asking for trouble!

i have 18x8 and they work fine... i would recommend a +46mm (rear) offset if you're planning on going this big tho. go 18x7.5 as a general rule for 18s.. i only have x8 cause the 18s for this rim only have 8" wide available. just make sure u go with a 215/35/zr18 tire along with it. no bigger. don't go with a 40 series sidewall.. i already did that once and it rubbed. you won't be able to drop as far, but just get eibachs. they rock anyway, and you won't have to drop so far you'll kill ur struts

honestly.. people that hit potholes and bend rims didn't have their tire pressure up to par. with smaller tires, check it weekly at a minimum! the only way those should bend is if u run into something sideways or if your pressure is too low and the tire doesn't take the shock... or if u drive off a 20 foot cliff. but then you'll be worrying about more than rims

once again, 18s are fine... if you don't want the "hassle" of taking care of your investment, go with 17s. if you're uber lazy or hate rougher rides, invest in some 16s. anything smaller... just stay stock and don't waste your time with $50 rims that make you look like ur "ballin outta control!"

honestly, i don't think it's a good idea. i had rub with my 225/40/zr18 setup, and i wouldn't be too sure that 215/40 would be any different. a lot of my rub was on the back over speed bumps, but i also had rub in my fender well when i made turns. if you're so worried about your rims that you can't go 35, do yourself a favor and don't get 18s.

it's not like 17s look bad, and you won't lose fuel economy either. in my opinion if you're going to go with 17s, go with a design that has the interior of the rim extending all the way out over the lip. example: enkei rs6 or rs8. nice 17s

I had 205/40/17s on my ES until winter rolled around. Then it was back to the stock steelies. For one, the stock tires are actually mud and snow rated, albeit prolly really ****ty. But it's gonna be a lot better handling than with the summer tires I have on my wheels.

I went with 205/40 series tires cuz it matches the radius of the stock 14s on the ES perfectly according to Whalen Tire. I don't want to bother with having my speedometer off.

I agree that 17s do look a little smallish, but it's more a design thing I think. When I get new wheels I'm going for something with the spokes actually extending all the way to the lip as opposed to having them stop short and tuck into the lip.

And I got to see Jason (thacollection) and his 19s, and they are TIGHT. For comparison, he's got about a 3 finger gap in his front wheel well. With my 17s on I have about a 1 finger gap and with steelies I have about 2 (with my car down about 2.75" up front).

I said and voted for 17's but i think on a ES u should stick with 16, because even if you dont think so now, u will probably end up lowering your car or get something for it to handle better, and the 16's would be really ideal for that.
