Im never gonna lower my lancer my friend did that to his and he gets wierd *** sounds when he goes over uneven roads. I dont think the lancer can hold being lowered in the long run.

He has 17 inch rims, cefer by long run i mean like in a couple of years what might happen. Thats why im not gonna mess with shocks or springs just leave them stock and get new rims.

dude, i'm sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong about this. your friend either bought ****ty or defective springs. in the long run, you'll want to go expensive to protect your investment. back when i had my es, i was looking at eibach springs for the es. you may want to look for an eibach prokit for a 98+ mirage. i've seen them on ebay for around $160+ship

when you get bigger rims, the wheel gap looks wayyy more obvious. you'll want to lower your car eventually, and this is a good way to go. telling you my mistakes now, 225/40/18 is too much. once you drop, you'll rub... i rubbed w/ no drop. 215/35/18 seems like about the biggest you'll want to run. i ran 18x8 w/ a +42 offset (ran very close to rubbing in the back, i might add). you may want to go with a +40 offset for an 8" width. in my opinion though, 18x7.5 w/ 215/35/18 is the best bet for the lancer. you'll be able to drop at this height and any squeaky sounds you get will be very temporary with eibachs. it would be nothing more than break in.

17s look too small. you'd really need to get something w/ spokes that go all the way out to over the lip (like some enkeis), but those kind of rims are getting kinda played out. i'm planning on advan rg-ii for my eclipse when they finally release

i hope that helps you out. just remember these facts:
- people telling you that they bent rims w/ low profile tires had either a low tire pressure, or crashed into a curb. even hitting a pothole shouldn't do it. legally, you can't be sold tires for street use if they're dangerous to your car! you can increase the chances of not getting bent rims by not buying ****ty rims to begin with
- 18s with a drop will NOT rub if you have the correct offset and setup. anyone telling you that they will just didn't plan their setup out very well. if you're really worried about rubbing, save up and get yourself some nice coilovers. they won't squeak either . honestly dood, that wheel gap is unbearable after you have bigger rims.
- 18s will not give you much worse fuel economy than stock. you can take total circumference and weight into consideration in this one. with my 215/35/18 setup, i was only about 3% off from stock and my fuel econ only went down 2mpg. i think that may have been from the header (installed at the same time). and people telling you you'll get better econ from 17s... look at their tire size. 215/35/18 is about the same as 215/45/17. the fact that their tires weight difference is about the same as your rim difference balances out the econ difference. you really can go with whatever you want without too big of side effects.

the bigger the better man, but also heavier.

i got 17's and dropped with progress springs and i rub when i make hard turns. so 18's and 19's can be worse.
