HOW TO: Easy Cluster Swap
#34
if you really wanted the mileage to be correct, assuming the new cluster has less miles. couldn't you just take out the speedo cable attach to a dril and wind it up. im just thinking i wouldn't actually do it

That is a good theory SJ..... but to the guys who are awwing about Mitsu charging you 600 to make the swap over.... Just be glad you don't live in Canada... :S I was quoted over 1000 to do a complete swap over, with the mileage corrected. Now THAT is a pain. But there is a way to swap over the ODO's from one unit to the other. I just don't have an OZ cluster yet to try it out.... knowing my luck, all I am going to end up doing is putting that brushed aluminum plate over the black ES one.... Darn you Mitsubishi and the Fugly gagues in the ES.... Darn you all to heck.

your supposed to report it to the dmv that you are doing this to keep it legal I think becuase it would be the same thing as rolling back the miles on a car w/o a digital mile reader thingy(cant think of name)

my lancer has a tachless cluster is my harness the same as ralliart too?cause the dealer said it inst and wanted to charge me $550 to swap it and change the wiring harness andd also void my electrical waranty even tough i'm paying them to install it on the dealer.

want to keep your miles? easy fix. If you know how to solder there is a 2x8 pin PROM on the circuit board of the cluster. Just swap those, mileage stays intact. Just dont solder at 300°C for 10 seconds [or more] and you're good to go.

i'm bringing this thread back from the dead...but the fact that the miles are stored in the cluster's ECU, someone can come along and decide to swap their cluster and when it's time to sell..they can replace it with the original, thus having a less mileage car? of course this would be illegal, but could be done!
