VERY NICE! I plan on trading my ES for a ralliart soon, but im still tempted to try it! If anyone does follow through with the blue, or any other color, please share! Im interested in seeing how a true blue would look.

couple of things...very nice write up
THERE ARE BULB COVERS THAT SMALL...go to mcmaster-carr and you can order them 10 at a time...go with the smallest size. Can't remember know...goto page 623 and get the T1 size I think
damn small but they can stretch
also if u are really good at soldering, u can desolder the bulbs behind the LCD and change those covers as well instead of the film...planning on doing this soon

Just go to http://www.mcmaster.com and search for colored light bulb covers. 10 covers for $3.56.

Hey, no problem. His info actually helped me out a bunch. I just got in the bulbs to change my climate control, lighter, and ashtray lights today. I already changed the climate controls, and will do the lighter/ashtray lights tomorrow. I don't want to spend the money on a new radio right now, so I want to change the lights in the stock radio. I'll be ordering these covers tonight.

Majestic- effing brilliant write up
***look out, here comes the hijack***
RollerPyro- By "bluer" I presume you mean closer to what you'd see in a Jetta (the cobalt color).... I've tried about 6 methods to make the gage cluster look very blue: LEDs (flat top and standard, and I've shaved the tops off of the LEDs to try to aim the beam toward the collectors) with blue lighting gel between the gage and the diffuser, HyperWhite incandescents with gel, stock bulbs with gel.... I've also chrome painted the underside of the black faceplate and I've taped mylar inside the body of the cluster to help reflect the light some... so far nothing.
I'm VERY VERY VERY interested in any method that will make the gages, etc have that cobalt color AND will still let the red numbers be red.

that's really nice, majestic. question: did you get the bulbs i mentioned, or somewhere else? maybe it's just your pics, but your colour seems a tad redder than mine, and if so, then i'm jealous.

thats so sick. all red looks so bad ***...but after riding in my cousins VW and seeing her dope *** interior lights i want to imitate that...i believe as engineerboy said it the Cobalt look is what i want to achieve as well.

with my gauges.. all i did was go to walmart and get some red translucent paper.. like gift wrap stuff.. and then pull the thin gauge piece off the cluster and just made sure i covered all the show thro points.. you can just get really technical about it if you want the different colors.. draw a picture of the front and cut it to fit in the desired place
