Question Has anyone put low profile tires on their stock OZ wheels?

In an effort to continue to save money for my turbo, I started to look at getting low profile tires for my stocks OZ wheels instead of buying rims.

I looked in tirerack, and found two sets of 195/45/15's for our wheels. Come spring time, I might do this.

Have any of you guys put low pro's on your stock OZ's?? Let me know.

Low profile...That would be a bad idea. Your rolling diameter would change drastically. Your speedometer and odometers would be way the **** off, and your ride would suck even more than a 17" on the same profile tire. I'd recommend either buying about the same size tire on the stock wheel or buying all new wheels and tires. I don't know what you're looking into for replacement wheels, but, assuming you don't want something heavy and chrome, there are tons of inexpensive wheels out there that don't weigh a ton and will serve you well.

On the other hand, the tire you mentioned may not be THAT low profile. I don't know offhand the difference in diameter, but if it's not huge then it's probably doable. Still, I'd recommend new wheels and tires so that you can 1. Use a wider tire, 2. not look like you're rolling around with wheels from a Radio Flyer, and 3. Maintain some semblance of comfort in your ride.

That size is way short on load and almost 2.5" shorter than stock.. seems like a bad idea.

What's stock for us? 195/55/15? Sorry to ask a stupid question, I'll admit I'm just being a lazy bastard.

Neal wouldn't it be ok to run a 205/50/15 on our stock wheels if we were going to use them for autocross and or track events? My thinking is I might lose a little top end but gain in acceleration, but I am not the expert that is why I am asking.

That should be fine. The diameter is a little off, but it carries enough load. You will get better off the line with that shorter tire too.

SO much for the low profile idea. I was looking into the katana Vr-6's that wheelmax has (17X7) with what would be 205/40/17 tires.

Be VERY careful if you have ABS. The system uses the rotational distance of your tire to do its thing. Changing the overall profile of the wheel can be very bad.

whats wrong with low profile tires? I thought they improve handling since theres less role on the tires? dunno if I worded that right... less woble from left to right?!?
