I've heard they need warming up to really work, which in Canada isn't gonna happen in the middle of winter. I got the Axxis Ultimates and they're great, really grippy cold and insanely grippy once they're heated up.

They take a few minutes to warm up, but once they're warm, they will make you stop, trust me on that one.

Biggest downside, if you're rims are pale in color, be prepared to clean them very often, because the Porterfield are really dusty(and carbon kevlar makes Black dust), espescially if you're hard on your brakes.

I've had them for a while, and they are GOOD.

That is true...the Axxis ULTs would be second best. Plus...there's a newer thread on the ULTs topic. Check it out.

When I talked to RRM they recommended the ultimates for the reasons of cold stopping power. If you live in Edmonton your gonna need to stop at like -30 to -40 so you don't want a racing pad for that.

this winter im not driving my car... my body kit took a lil beating this winter and i rather keep my car in good condition, instead of investing over a grand in repainting and fiberglassing my body kit back together, so this winter im gonna get a $hit box for the winter...i was thinking a lil civic or something..something that heats, starts and is a 5spd. As my dad says..something to get you from POINT A TO POINT B

Ah k, lucky you, then the porterfields make sense since you'll only be doing warm, summer weather.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong.

But cold starting means "until the pads warm up" rather than "until it's 70 degrees and sunny."

Yeah but in the winter it takes longer for them to warm up since its colder outside, when its -40 it takes awhile for any pad to get to its fullest.

It's not all that bad in the winter actually. I live in Ottawa, Ontario so I know what kind of wheater you're facing... You really have to be carefull on your first 2-3 stops signs, then your fine, or if you're on the highway for a while without pumping the brakes at all, then it might be a bit tricky, but on the highway, if you have to stop quickly, they will warm up pretty tham fast

But you're not facing that porblem anyway since you're parking the car for the winter

Dude, trust me - when you have a little pad trying to grab onto some steel and stop 3000 lbs, -20 or 70 degrees doesn't matter.
