Thinking about Rims and Rotors

I have in mind in the semi near future to get some new rims and tires, and in the near future to get some new rotors. I want to get my rotors first then the rims...

My question is, are the rotors that are on the stock OZ as big as they can be with the stock rims? Or are they as big as they can be period? If not how big is should a decent sized rotor be with 17"? I don't want to have nice bigger rims and have these tiny overlooked rotors.

I did a search and nothing simular came up. Thanks!
