Wierd noise when rolling backwards after breaking

Occasionally I notice a wierd noise comming from what sounds like the front or front right of the car after I haved stopped if I am on a hill and start to roll backwards a little. It doesn't happen when I move forward, only when the car rolls back in neutral. It sounds like the deep hollow sounds of the hull of a submarine bending when it's diving really deep, which I know is kinda wierd. The only thing I've been able to think of is that a piston is possibly not opening back up all the way? If anyone has any ideas let me know, thanks.

It's probably just the abnormal sound of the reverse movement in the rotor and the brake pads together. The pads wear into the rotor during the forward motion; when reversed, you'll get odd noise and vibration. Not a problem...

I got that sound when I down shifted, discovered it was my clutch...I also here a loud kind of rattle and almost the same sound you're hearing when I back up, it's the DP rubbing up against that support bar (don't remember what it's called). Don't know if any of that applies to you, but that's what happened to me...good luck!!

The pads and rotors are slightly angled to keep them from making noise during braking. But that means that they are angled the wrong direction when going in reverse, so they can rub and make some noise. My Trans Am did it and it sounded like a door closing on a 50 year old sunken submarine! If that's the only time you hear the noise, you should be fine.

I never get it when I reverse, only when it's a "neutral" backwards roll. That makes sense about the angling of the rotors. Thanks for the info!
