Tien S-Tech Questions
Got a couple of questions for you guys that are riding S-Techs. Did any of you notice wheel rub after you put on your springs? I've got 17's on the car right now, caan't remember the width of the top of my head though. Also, did you cut your bump stops? I didn't. Does it really make a big difference? And one last Q, did you need an alignment after putting them on?
Gotta say I love the way the car sits and rides now. A definite improvement over stock.

Wait what size Tires are you running on those 17's? You shouldn't be rubbing at all.. also if you're dropping your car more than 1.8 or so you'll definitely need an alignment, camber kit as well just so you don't cause excessive tire wear after a few months.

If your wheel/tire combo is correctly sized, you should be fine. If you pushed it on tire size, maybe not...
I cut the bump stops. Why not follow directions? If you start hitting the bump stops, you'll be kinda dangerous...
Alignment is wise. You're changing the suspension setup a lot, and plus you're pulling it all off, and probably not reinstalling it at factory spec.

Hmmm.....good points
I'll look up my tire size and width when I go out side. Its such a minor rub, it doesn't really bug me. Just wanted to see if anyone else had it. How much does an alignment ussually run? Also where can I get a camber kit?

Alignment - usually $60 at a shop, $80 at a dealership (in my experience).
As for the rub, keep an eye on it - you don't want to be rubbing the tread off (or blow a tire at 80mph in a hairpin turn).

For my expeirince (Whatever that counts for) I have seen the damages that tires can come to with being out of size. Inner sidewall blowouts to the most extreme of cases, engine troubles. With a 17" rim, you should go no larger then a P205/40-17. With tires you have the overall diameter,a nd you can only be out .4 of an inch before you start noticing speedo's going slower then your car actually is. If you want to do the homework yourself (Warning, geek coming out here) You can calculate the overall diameter sizing yourself.
Formula:
Width of tire divided by 25.4 multiplied by aspect ratio plus rim size
I have a Lancer ES, and I know that the tire size of an OZ is 155/70R15 (I think)
So I would go
((195/25.4)*70%)+15
That equals an overall tire diameter of 28.05"
Lets try a 205/40-17
((205/25.4)*40)+17
Overall tire diameter is 28.29.... Being within .4" of the OEM size, then without any problems the tire will fit, and nothing should go wrong. Hope that helped.

I didn't cut the bump stops...but I wish I did. Doesn't it give an extra 1" of travel for better dampening that way? Definately get alignment, you'll notice a HUGE difference after.

After your install, see if it pulls to one way or the other.
When the springs were removed, you didnt have to disturb the a-arm camber settings, so if she's straight. She's good.
The alignment from factory is dead on.....most of the time. Also, alot of these shops locally have old, worn equipment.
Check out the shop's alignment equipment. The newer, the better, No what I mean.
