16inch tires rub without lowering?!?
hello all.
my friend just got his rims on his 02 Lancer ES, 16x7, using 205/50/16 tires. He said that his rear tires are rubbing when he goes over speedbumps, and front tires rub when they are turned to the sides all the way. Is this normal? The tire size seems like they have no problem, and I confirmed here on Lancer forum that the offsets of those wheels are fine.
This is even before his lowering! He already bought springs. What could be wrong? thanks for anything in advance!

thanks for the help guys. This is weird because it's only 16" and the tires are recommended sizes.
OK I just went to his place to check out the car.
Offset seems okay. The rear tires are rubbing the inside of the fenders when I drive through speed bumps and dips. When I drive up the driveway alittle faster, it also rubs alot.
I jacked up the car to see. The rear tires are actually only about 1 inch away from the inside of the fenders. I can't imagine how bad it'll get if the car is lowered.
Anyone else running the same tire size?

What is the offset of the rims? That size should work fine. I'm using 215/45/16 and they're actually smaller than stock (205/50 is also smaller than stock). That makes me wonder if you got the wrong offset on the rims. They should be about 42mm. More than that will make them rub the shock housing and less could rub the fender. If it's minor rubbing on the fender, you could roll the fender a little, but best to find the right offset.

it's rubbing the INSIDE of the wheel well, not the outer fenders. That's what I don't get.

You know, I had similar rubbing issues on my Camry with 205/45 series tires and 16" wheels. I also had stock springs and the rears would rub when I hit bumps too hard. I dunno what the deal is, but I had my fenders rolled and tha didn't solve the problem either.
Move up to 17s. I've got 205/40/17s on right now with stock springs and there's zero rubbing.
