215/40-r17 pressure?

So, I couldn't find any threads about this.

For you guys running 215/40-r17 tires, what psi are you setting them at?

Thanks!

I run my 205-45-17's at 5psi below the max psi listed on the tire's wall...

The final pressure you'll be using should set according to your driving preferences... but feel free to use our experience to get there...

On the street I ran my tires at 32 all around.
On the track, I ran them at 30 and they were all 42 after a 15 minutes session.

5 below recommanded maximum is somewhat risky if you ask me.
Tires heat up when you drive. The harder you drive, the more they heat up. And it's all about physics... The air inside your tire heat up as well, and also expands as it heats.

When I get off the track, my tires are 12psi higher than they were when I first got on. Can you imagine what would happen if I ran my tires 5psi below recommanded maximum?

Pressure too high ain't better than too low. Both will have side effects that will compromise your thread life and driving capabilities.

Too low and the tire will flex too much when cornering.
Too high, the tire won't flex enough when you launch, and won't flex enough when you take a corner. If the tire can't flex enough you'll be sliding around.

I ran my 205/40/17 about 33 psi all around for daily driving.. Little cushion for bumps. They were around there when I went autox'ing and I got massive tire roll. I was scraping the sidewalls up when cornering.. So, Next autox im going to raise it to about 40 psi, take a run.. see what happens. then deflate if need be.

I should edit my hasty post rom above... On the stock OZs with the 15's I ran higher psi (40). On the 17s now I'll run 35psi for DD.
