Valve Stem Failure = Flat Tire
So my TPMS warning went off on my way home today. I found that my right rear tire was really low, and I could hear air hissing out from the valve stem. While at a gas station attempting to put air in the tire, the end of the METAL valve stem snapped off...and the actual valve that holds the air in blew out...and my tire quickly went flat.
I'm guessing the thing somehow cracked and caused the leak...then completely broke off from trying to fill it. Maybe something hit it causing it to fracture?
...big rock?
On the right you see the end that broke off. On the left...the valve that is supposed to hold the air in.

I ended up taking advantage of the Mitsubishi roadside assistance. It took the guy about 40 minutes to arrive, but it was worth it...since it didn't cost me anything. It was extremely windy and cold out, and the crap they give us in the trunk doesn't make changing a tire easy.
I guess I'll be visiting the dealership tomorrow.

Sounds pretty basic. As long as you don't have aftermarket rims (in which case they'd say the installer damaged the TPMS during install), you should get a new unit under your warranty.

Thats funny.
Yesterday My TPS warnig went off and its the Rear Right Tire thats going flat every 24 hours. I think Ill take it to the dealership and have them replace it.
Could this be a general defect? seems unlikely but ya never know.

I took my car to the dealership yesterday and told them about my broken valve stem. They replaced the whole TPMS unit on the one wheel, reprogammed all four wheels, and sent me on my way. It didn't cost me a thing. He said the sensor alone was listed for like $60 though. Thank God for warranties.
