Question using fix a flat

can you use fix-a-flat or any other tire stuff like that on tires with you new shiny rims on them or will it ruin your rims... i always heard that it would gunk up your wheels when you went to get a new tire put on

There are reports of fix-a-flat type of fillers eating the finish on wheels and producing an explosive gas inside the tire. Reports are rare, however, people have been hurt from dismounting tires with this compound in them. If you put too much in, it can ball up in a corner of your tire and cause a vibration problem. Cleanup is also a mess.

It just gooks up the inside of the tire, it shouldn't even come close to wear your finish is. Balancing will probably be off.

Yeah, I also heard that Fix-a-flat voids any warranty on the tire you use it on, also.

Dude... stay away from any kind of fix-a-flat stuff. That is the worst thing you could do to a tire. I'm still surprised that **** hasn't been outlawed yet.

Take it in and have a plug put in it. Fix-a-flat is a real ***** to clean out of the rim when you take the tire off!!! Better to fix it right than get stuck out in the middle of now where with a flat because it leaked again!!!

The best type of repair would be a patch plug combo. This way the hole is sealed as well as the inner liner area inside the tire. They might be a couple $ more, but it is the best way to repair a tire.

Angry

do not use fix a flat. not only will it ruine your finishes...its a danger to you! your tire can explode from the chemicals used if you enter the limits of the product(heat, shock, etc.)...its a health hazard and thats the major reason why some delears refuse to work on any fix a flat wheels. use caution on this product and only use it in etreme emergencies...i know theres a website out there that explains exactly how it happens...but i learned this from wyotech when i took my suspension dynamics class...i dont think they would include it in their curriculum if it wasnt worth mentioning.

i really never had any problems with fix-a-flat. but then again i only had to use it one time on my mr2. i came out from the mall and my right rear tire was really low on air. so i went and put air in it, and the next day it was low again. so i figured what the hell im going to try fix-a-flat out. i mean when you are paying $250 for one 245/45/16 pilot sport tire it was worth the shot. to make a long story short the tire never lost air again and when it was time to go and get it changed the people who put the new tire on never said anything about any gunk or nething. who knows just my .02
