Ok, I dont know what I'm talking about

Alright well can someone please help me on a few questions. I have a 09 Lancer GTS, and I was looking at replacement tires for it, I figured I would go up to 225, since it should ride a little better and is a little cheaper. Now I'd also like to go a little wider, but I don't want rubbing issues. So my question is, how wide can I go? I would like to keep the stock GTS rim, and just a little bit wider than the stock tires.

I thought that a 225/40/18 was wider than a 225/45/18 can someone please tell me what i should do? thanks!

225=WIDTH
40=RATIO (side wall)
18=DIAMETER

225/40/18 and 225/45/18 are the same width. The 45 is going to be a taller tire.
