Widest Tire on Stock GTS Rim?

I know this post has been made a trillion and 1 times, but I just dont have time to search for it (getting ready for work and typing at the same time) so i was just curious

What is the widest tire we can fit on the stock GTS rim, and how much will it cut down on gas milage?

It depends on the wheel.See below the link for tirerack

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...e1=yes&place=0

It say Rim Width Range for a 215/45 it says 7-8"

Search for more width tire and wyou will see that 225 is the widest tire that they recommend

i dont see how it would cut down on gas mileage any but i have 225/45 on the stock rims for my winters and 225/40/19 tires on 19x8.5 inch rims for summer and they both work and look even better.

width/ how low profile / rim size

lol i guess that could make more sense

so 40 would mean a more low profile tire

Why go for such a wide tire? Sure you can get a little more traction on the track but the wider the tire, the lower the performance in weather such as rain (more rubber on the ground means less weight per square inch = hydroplane galore). Not to mention tires that are too wide for the rim just look bad in my opinion. I'm not a fan of sidewalls that that don't curve in a bit, but thats just me.

But tell me, why do you want such a wide tire? Plan on taking the puppy for some auto x?

ya i didnt like the skinniness either.. i have 18x8 that extra inch in rim is what will make the huge difference.. getting a bigger tire on a 7inch rim (stock GTS) will pretty much look the same.. may as well save up and get some x7.5 or x8 or x8.5 inch rims..

The reason your gas mileage is down is not the width its because you are turning a TALLER tire. Takes more energy to make one full rotation of that tire than it would a 215/45/18. That and your mph is going to be off either -/+ depending on if your tire is taller or shorter than the oem one.

a 225/45/18 tire is 225mm wide/i believe 45% of 225mm is the height of the sidewall/18" rim diameter.

so a 215/45/18 tire is going to be a little shorter if you set the 2 next to each other. Since you are at 45% of 225 instead of 45% of 215.

If you change to a 225 tire or larger the rest of your aspect ratio needs to change also. a 225 tire you might be better off with a 225/40/18 or maybe a 225/35/18.
