I plan on getting Kumho 711s soon. Very nice price, the 205/50/16s are about $50 each, and I'm sure the 17s aren't that much more. Even with mounting and balancing, that should keep you around your 300 limit.

That reminds me, there was a Pep Boys tire that got really high ratings. It's actually becoming a popular autocross tire for some street tire classes whre the Falkens and BFGs aren't offered in the desired size.

Kumhos are great for the price. Don't expect 30K mile tread life tho.

I saw in another thread that toyo's were going for around $78 a piece (I can't confirm this)... that would be a great tire for the money

For 300.88 you can get the kumho 711's. BUT you're going to need a snow tire once winter comes along. Also, with the 711's, the tread life is pretty miserable but i guess that's why their so cheap.

I figure I don't like to stick with the same tire or rim for long anyway, so it might be best for me to use the 711s, I hear the grip is pretty good but they wear out fast. I still have a few months to decide, though, and I know the 712s aren't all that much more expensive.

As for me personally, I won't be needing snow tires any time soon. Hell will freeze over before Los Angeles does

*sigh* Must be nice. I really need to get away from Pennsylvania. 3 months of snow, 8 months of gloomy-ness, and 1 nice month.

Different speed rating, treadlife, and price

712's: Z rated, 280 tread life; $121* at www.discounttire.com
711's: H rated, 340 tread life; $95* at www.discounttire.com

There's also a difference in tread design, but that's about it, that I know of.

*205/40/17's, cheaper if smaller, more if larger.

the cheapest places ive found that sells the 711's and 712's arewww.tirerack.com or www.whalentire.com

just the tires-tirerack
rim/tire package-whalentire

With all of the reviews ive read on both the 711's and 712's, tread life seems to be the same but the grip on the 712's is better. more porche/bmw's/corvette's seem to be using the 712's and more compact cars are equipped with the 711's. I'm still wondering if i should spend the extra 100.00 and upgrade to the ASX....
