CVT shift knob?

Any of you guys take it off yet? I tried to turn it (testing to see if it was threaded on), but I didn't want to break it. I'd love it if it was a basic threaded setup and I could get my Ralliart shift knob again...

I'm thinking about grabbing a little dentist's mirror and trying to look up into the knob. The bottom of it is open.

Put the car in neutral and follow instructions:

It'll take a little bit of strength to pop off the knob, so be careful not to hit yourself in the face.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, if you just pull straight up, that means we can't get aftermarket shift knobs.

Damnit. I really wanted the Ralliart shift knob I had in my old Lancer.

Black,

You give up so easily, my friend. =).

Heli-coil into the shift knob and die the rod to the inner pitch and threading of the coil.

=)

Then again, it would look kind of weird... to have a knob with a collar as wide as the Ralliart on such a thin stalk.

I have an ARC teardrop knob lying around. I may try this with that.

Wasn't sure what material the rod was made out of. I didn't want to pull out the tap & die set only to find out it was plastic.

I may still give it a shot. I appreciate the info you posted!

The rod is roughly 8mm. Since uses a 10mm thread pitch, you'd need some sort of adapter to make use of a Lancer-specific knob. I'm starting to accept that I won't be getting a Ralliart shift knob.

No, don't settle for that! Make an adapter!

Right after the warranty ends. The last thing I want is them blaming a CVT failure on me modifying the shift rod or something.

"Oh oh yeah, look at this, you put an extra nut and thread on your rod, that clearly caused your transmission to blow up then drop out onto the highway and get ran over by a semi becoming completely unsalvagable.. this one.. single.. little.. nut. Oh well looks like your warranty is void. Have a good one!"

QUACK!

Or better yet, it should yell "AFLAC!"

Seriously, I wonder if anyone will find a way to replace it. I suppose one day I'll pop mine off and see if anything can be done.
