Evo transmission fwd

I know the evo transmission does not bolt up to the 4g94. What I am trying to do is gather information on the swap im now saving for. Im going to purchase a evo 8 or 9 engine and swap them into my 02 oz. And i know i can use the f5m42 transmission but you can normally purchase a transmission and engine cheaper if they are still together. So what i was wondering is if i can remove the evo's transfercase and keep it just fwd with custom axles? I tried searching and found nothing any info would be nice thanks.

yah i know that's the f5m42 i could go that route but at the local yards and ebay its cheaper for me to get the evo engine with trans together then but the eclipse trans then the evo engine. But if i have to buy one at a time i will.

Yep started looking into the swap the next day. I want more :P But i dont want an evo or awd. I like working on and having things that are different. When ever i take the car to the track all the v8 guys that line up next to me are all worried and ask is it an evo as soon as i say no they start talking smack. So i want to give them a reason to fear a lancer that is not an evo :P And the power levels that i want to be making are not within reason for this engine. I think the swap would cost less. I want to be atleast 500 whp. so i could keep stock evo bottem end and only be paying for the swap probably around 3k isk is what i expect.

Ok, here's what I got. To just remove the transfer case and install the passenger side axle, you would have a good 8" or so of the output shaft being exposed between the transmission oil seal and the axle. I wouldn't recommend this.

So to use the Evo transmission sans transfer case, you would likely need to disassemble the transmission to remove the Evo's center diff assembly and find a suitable replacement from a FWD Mitsu (likely an Eclipse). You would then need to find an axle combination for both driver and passenger side that would work with the right outer spline and length of the Lancer and the inner spline to match the diff assembly you went with.

All in all, it doesn't present itself as a simple swap and go. There are alot of maybes in there. The much better FWD transmission option is using the F5M42 trans from the 3G Eclipse or the Lancer F5M42 with the 4G64 bellhousing.

The turbo'd 4G64 Eclipses are pushing 350-450. You would figure that anything higher than that would be annoying to drive as a FWD setup. I would recommend having the rails, forks and gears prepped for the abuse you intend to put them under. And, of couse, an LSD will be necessity.
