Damn you're taking this welding thing too far lol. How's the shifting effort? Does the shift knob sit pushed forward now?
I doubt that all it takes to design a good short shifter is just to shorten the top part but I may be wrong.

ok so i was bored and went ahead and instleed it lol the shift knob sits in the same place as the TWM, except just vertically lower.....by more than an inch lol I would say shifting effort is the same, maybe a tad bit more, but thats because ive had this TWM for over a year or so now, but im sure going from stock to this, it would be a HUGE difference! and you are partly right. a true "short shift kit" includes a whole new base and shifter and EVERYTHING down there lol to truly maximize the decrease in shift movement. its like what is on a new Roush Mustang. have you felt a Roush' shifter? its crazy small between intervals.....a short shifter like TWM and this, just shortens the height of the knob (you still have to move it through the same number of degrees to get to the gears, but the arc length of the curve is shorter) and it also lengthens the bottom part, which decreases the number of degrees that the knob has to move to get into gears, because under the pivot ball, it can go through the same arc length in less degrees. the longer the bottom section is, the shorter the throw is. mine and the TWM shifter have about the same length bottom section, but theyre both longer than the stock shifter. I could have made the bottom about a half inch longer, which would shorten throw even MORE, but when I had made this, I thought it was already longer than the TWM, but it turned out to be about the same. now, onto the pics!
TWM on left, mine on right
Installed
Neutral position
First gear position
Second gear position
Ohhhhh the benefits of knowing how to weld

Looks functional, good thing it's covered by the shift boot.
I wanted a short shifter a while ago but decided not to because of the rev hang issue that our cars have. It takes a long time for the engine revolutions to fall (especially from 1st to 2nd) which requires the driver to shift a little slower in order to be smooth. I wish there was a fix for that.
But good job though. So what's next?
Edit: Is that your broken piston and rod? Looked like a pipe for a quick second lol.

yeah, there are some spots i have to grind down a little bit just to give it some more clearance, but it does fit and shift fine. I dont seem to have that problem, RPMs drop ok for me....idk whats next, give me ideas! maybe a new Front strut tower bar, but since I have the stock GTS one, thats good enough i think haha
yeah thats my busted piston and rod. I keep it with me at all times in case I have to tell my story to someone and to remind me of how ****ty mitsu quality is
would you be interested in my TWM shifter?
