can i safely go with AMSOIL 75W90 rated GL4 or GL5?

What happens if someone puts in more than 2.3 quarts... like 2.8?

 

it all (until you get to the correct level that is) pisses out and you've wasted money. nothing else.

 

Hopefully you're right. I didn't take any chances, emptied it and refilled with 2 quarts... but I'm affraid I messed up a seal since I seem to be loosing some(looking at the small puddle under the car)

 

did you make sure your drain and fill plugs were tightened down right and that you didn't lose the washers? there is a washer on each plug that you need to have on there. if the washer and/or plug has gotten dirty that could cause it to leak as well.

you should be able to remove the fill plug and stick your finger in the transmission, when you pull it out you should have gear lube on your finger. it should be right there and level with the bottom of the fill hole.

 

Yeah... both the drain and fill plug are tight and both have a clean washer. I seem to have oil around the seals I researched it on the web and it appears some trannies have some sort of drain device when it's overfilled... so fluid might have come of there too. Now that the fluid level is right, I guess I just have to wait a few days to find out. Right now it might just be the fluid that leaked on other parts that drips on the ground.

 

Yeah, with small leaks you need to clean the area that's been dripped on and then continue to watch to see if that was a fluke or if you have an ongoing problem. I lay down cat litter just ot be sure I didn't miss a spot. I'll even wipe down the tranny/engine/oilpan/etc just to make sure I'm not getting any residual gunk dripping on the floor. I'm sure you're alright.

nope, no filter on a standard transmission.
