High Rev in the morning

Every morning when i first start the car the RPMs go up to about 2k and stay there until the car gets warmed up... then they drop to between 800-1300. Any clue to why???
Mods-Intake, Header/Downpipe, CatBack and O2 Sensor CEL eliminator.
All the help is appreciated.

well, how long are you talking about? mine does this, but it rarely lasts more than 15 - 20 seconds, even when cold. HOw long we talking here? that could make a difference

Considering his location isn't filled out and he hasn't mentioned the temps or anything it's really hard to estimate how long the high idle would last. I'm pretty sure its run time is based on coolant temp, so the colder it is, the longer the increased idle.

It can take quite a while. Sometimes it's not uncommon for me to put down 5 to 10 minutes of driving at an increased idle, dropping back to ~650-700 when warmed up.

My lancer does the same thing.. I've always wondered if there was something wrong so I asked a Mitsu tech and he said the car just senses that it needs to be warmed up.. Not a problem at all!

It's normal. Even when you just roll (no gear) and it's still cold the RPMs go up to ~1500.

omg, its the ECU regulating the temperature of your engine, if it didnt do this you should be worried, this is pretty much on EVERY SINGLE CAR WITH AN ECU

I guess i didn't notice it to much until the exhuast was on and you just hear this big vroom for a couple minutes in the morning. Sorry guys i haven't filled out my demographics. Not much of a forum ***** as of late. But since more modding should be coming i hope to be on here allot more. I guess since i strated the thread i can expand on this a little more here.

Also before i am "warmed up" (before my temp neddle gets to almost half way) if i gun it there is this really ricey sound like rrrraaaaaaaa. But once i get to the warm up it sounds awsome nice and deep toned. Any thoughts???? or suggestions how i can fix it?

That sound when you rev your engine when it is colder is also normal. My lancer does it, my buddies civic does it, my old talon did it.. don't worry, just give it time to warm up.

Ok, first of all I knw this thread is over a year old but I didnt want to just overload the site with threads on the same topics as I've seen some do...

SO...here's whats up, in the last week, everything I start the lancer oz up the rpms jump up to 2500-2800k and stay there for a lil while...This has never happened before, it only went up 2 about 2k, even in the freezing winter...Its been a little bit warmer and this just started and yes my battery has good connections...

Where is your CEL eliminator? My 03' OZ did the same thing because I put my CEL eliminator on the headers instead of the second O2 sensor (Cat). After I did some reading and realized that I put CEL eliminator in the wrong place, I was (luckily) able to get it off the headers, put it where it was supposed to go and my cold-start idle returned to normal. No more high rpm warm up.

the idle raises for 3 reasons: warm the coolant, warm the oil, and get an initial circulation of oil (since it obviously settles in the oil pan when the car isn't running).

if you have your steering wheel turned when the cars idle is up; it will cause it to raise a bit higher due to power steering. otherwise, try reseting the ECU and see if it still occurs. 2800 is pretty high at idle. i've started mine in a blizzard and it only revs to 2300.
