just an update for those interested:
apparently my starter problems resulted from a..........wait for it..........loose positive battery cable i feel like a moron, i could have sworn i checked it
and the shop told me the led problems were because of something causing high resistance in the wires (they didn't say what specifically) and they claim everything is all fixed now
ah well, i'm lucky it wasn't anything more complicated. thanks for the help fellas
