Broke Dip Stick - Help

If you broke the Plastic piece and are unable to use needle nose pliers to get the DipStick out, all I can think of is... Cut a small part of the DipStick housing making sure you're not cutting the DipStick as well. Once the DipStick is out, just cut the same amount on it(from the top) and put another plastic piece on it.

Hopefully it is magnetic.. you could try a little magnet. But I have a feeling its not magnetic. In that case, they make those little gripper things that look like a long tightly coiled spring. They have little protruding grabbers that come out of the end when you press a button with your thumb. They are used for picking up screws you dropped in tight spaces. Check out one of those at the store to see if it will fit down in there. Thats about the only thing I can think of without taking off the oilpan.. or wherever that little oil level check tube goes to.

Put a monkey down the well with a peanut butter and jelly sandwi...nevermind.
Worst comes to worst you can drop your oil pan. If you're removing the turbo kit you'd probably need to do that anyway to replace the upper pan where you tapped for oil return.

Screw. So I have to drop the oil pan. That sucks. I'm not going to cut the housing because then the readings might not be accurate. It broke off halfway down, so there's no way to grip it with anything. I might be able to drill it, put a screw in, and pull it out. I'll try that before dropping the pan. Hopefully my RTV is still good just in case I do have to drop it.

Yeah, ****ty solution, but you would NOT have a fun time pulling it out by any other means that I can think of. MAYBE you could get away with just dropping the lower pan, but I dont' think you would get access to where the top of the dipstick sits. Perhaps since the top broke off it'd fall to the bottom, but I dunno for sure. Either way you have to drain out the oil...so maybe try the lower first, and the upper only if that doesn't work?

The tube can be easily removed and maybe starting to remove it will allow you to grasp the broked dipstick between the engine block and the tube that has been moved vertically upwardly a little.

You can just take the tube off and then take out the broken half... right? the tube is just held on by one bolt. it pulls right out when you take the bolt off.

I'll look today after work, but you guys are probably right. I gotta pull the radiator today because I punched a tiny hole in it (JBWeld to the rescue). Then I will be able to see everything on the front side of the engine and should be able to see where the tube is connected.
