I'm fairly confident it wasn't a bolt since all were accounted for in both the install and the uninstall. Plus I'd assume if it was a bolt it be present when they took the head apart and there would be a little more damage to the engine than just 4 valves.

Yeah, the IM install isn't for the faint of heart. It was by far the hardest/most complicated install I've done. Now its nothing compared to a head job or pistons or head studs or something, but its not putting in a CAI. I'm just sorry that this had to happen to a fellow Lancer modder. Perhaps we/you could do a cross boards search (Hondas, Nissans, etc) and see if anything like this has happened to anyone else and if so, what caused it.

I'll find out on tuesday or wednesday when my car gets back from the machine shop. The thing that's sticking in my mind right now is the cam sensor, maybe that got thrown outta whack or something, but I don't see how.

not really likely to find it... uless it's in the exhaust side. Usually things like that get thrown into the exhaust. Do you have a header or cat of any kind still in. That might have stopped it and you could recover it.
Just to let you know a small piece of gasket could have done that damage. It doesn't take much at all when dealing with high revolutions.
Cam sensor wouldn't do that... your car just woulding run. The only causes is debri or skipped tooth on timing gear. Something litterally had to hit the valves. If there is no damage to the pistons then it most likely didn't skip on the gear. Thus it must have been debri.

When i hear something like that i usually want to know every damn detail that is costing me a grand. If you can't explain it the price is dropping.

Part of it was I was under the assumption it was just a sensor and the plugs, so when the time came to have it done came around and I was told the valves were shot I was more concerned about getting my car back on the road than knowing every little detail of the problem, especially since I'm not a mechanic by any means.

yea shops operate to be nice to costumers then charge them way beyond..... my bent stock rim costs $600 to be replaced from a shop when i got into an accident. good thing insurance is covering it. always be careful with who you speak... it's nice that people smile at you but are you able to trust that smile? you can buy a grand with used engine on ebay..... just my 02... why would it cost that much to repair?

I know the shop quite well, been going there for the last 2 years and they are always quite reasonable. As far as buying a new engine/parts on ebay, once again I don't have the time to wait, plus since I'm in Canada I would have to deal with insane shipping costs and import fees. I have to go back to university on monday and I'm not willing to sit around and wait 2 weeks for a engine or parts to come in.
